My Pursuits in Academia
My name is Ryan and I've spent half of my life in academia. Throughout these 20 years, I have lived by a fundamental conviction that has steered my academic journey: the importance of the dissemination of sensible ideas and considered thought. But not just any ideas! Only those that are considered, rigorous, and supported by high-quality evidence. To me, understanding and generating ideas is a profound journey, yet the true quest lies in communicating them effectively. I firmly believe that the essence of true comprehension is the ability to teach or explain a concept clearly. If you can't elucidate what you know, do you really understand it?

This belief has not only guided my teaching and research but also led me to create numerous blogs over the years. Through these platforms, I have taken on the role of intermediary of sorts; translating the sometimes complex (and often paywalled) world of academic knowledge for anyone willing to explore it. My mission has always been to break down intricate scientific information into accessible knowledge, making it understandable and engaging for a broader audience.

I continue to be a voracious consumer and purveyor of information and thought. I strive to absorb new knowledge, analyze it critically, and then share it with the world in the most comprehensible and engaging way possible. Through my work, I hope to foster a community of lifelong learners, thinkers, and, most importantly, communicators who believe in the transformative power of shared knowledge.

With a distinguished career spanning several decades in academia, I have had the privilege of supervising over 100 honours students in the field of psychology, marking a significant contribution to the development of future professionals. Through hundreds of research projects, my involvement underscores a steadfast dedication to advancing the discipline through rigorous inquiry and innovation. Alongside this, I have delivered hundreds of lectures and tutorials on a broad spectrum of topics, enriching the academic journey of countless learners. My versatile experience is further emphasised by my engagement in a variety of roles across the academic spectrum, showcasing a multifaceted expertise and a profound commitment to education and research.
